Virtual races: what they are and how to join

A virtual race is a race you do not have to travel to. You cover the distance on your own route, at your own pace and within the event’s dates, and once you finish, a real medal is on its way to you. This is how virtual races work on Wybiegaj.com.

What is a virtual race?

At a regular race everybody starts at the same time from the same place. In a virtual race the organiser sets a distance and a window, say 10 km within a month, and you decide where and when to cover it: in the park round the corner, at a stadium or on a holiday trail.

The app keeps the result. You record your workout on your phone or add an activity by hand, and the challenge’s progress grows as you go. Once you meet the event’s requirement, the challenge is complete and your medal is on its way.

How to take part in a virtual race, step by step

  1. Create an accountIn your browser or in the app on your phone. One account for every challenge.
  2. Pick a challengeA run, a walk or a ride, with a distance and dates that suit you.
  3. Sign up and choose a packGive a delivery address and pay for the starter pack with PayU.
  4. Cover the distanceRecord your workout in the app or add an activity by hand. Both count the same.
  5. Get your medalOnce you complete the challenge, we send the pack to an InPost parcel locker or by courier (for a surcharge).

In one go, or over several outings?

It depends on the challenge. Some ask for the whole distance in a single activity, like a classic race. Others add up all your outings within the event’s dates, so a longer distance can be collected over a whole month. The requirement is written on every event before you sign up.

Not just running: walking and cycling

Despite the name, virtual races are not only about running. Wybiegaj.com has walking and cycling challenges too, and in some events the same distance counts whether you run it or walk it. That makes them a good first race as well: you go at your own pace, without start-line nerves.

The medal and the starter pack

Finishing a virtual race earns you a real medal, not a PDF certificate. Starter packs differ in what they hold (some include a T-shirt) and in price; you see both on every challenge before you pay.

We send the pack only once you complete the challenge, to an InPost parcel locker or by courier. You follow the shipment in the app.

Virtual races that help

Some events are charity races. They support a chosen cause, and the event shows how much has been raised so far.

Records, badges and rankings

Every activity stays in your profile. The app works out your personal bests over each distance, challenges earn you badges, and events show a ranking of their participants.

Frequently asked questions about virtual races

Do I have to run a virtual race in one go?
It depends on the challenge. Some ask you to cover the whole distance in a single activity; others add up your outings across the whole window. Each event says which, before you sign up.
How does the app know I've covered the distance?
Two ways. Record your workout in the app — the route, distance and time are saved for you. Or add an activity by hand — both count the same.
When will I get my medal?
We ship your pack once you complete the challenge — to an InPost parcel locker or by courier (the surcharge is shown when you sign up). Without completing it, the pack is not shipped. You can track the shipment status in the app.
Do I have to run in a specific city?
No. You choose a challenge, not a location — you run wherever you are.
How much does it cost to take part?
It depends on the starter pack — usually a few dozen złoty. You'll see the exact price on each challenge before you pay.
Do I need a sports watch?
No — your phone is enough. Record your workout in the app, or add one from your watch by hand.
